Survivor Series of 1989 took place on November 23 at the Rosemont Horizon (now known as the AllState Center). Like the previous two years, the emphasis is on survival and team work. We already saw two mediocre survivor series, so will this the be charm? The answer is sort of. The teams this time around are even better than in the previous two Survivor Series. The roster was also well laid out and the rivalries complemented each other (to an extent). Were the matches any good? Absolutely! While none of the matches really stood out, each one brought out their own unique charm. Another positive was that the survivors of each match helped those who were new to the World Wrestling Federation help make a name for themselves, thus making their careers more memorable. The only exception being Rhodes and Beefcake (although the latter lasted longer in the WWF). Now for the negatives. The first being that Zeus overworked his character (his "vulnerability" should've been carried over to Survivor Series). Another negative being that Tully Blanchard got fired for failing a drug test and Bobby Heenan took his place. Really?! I understand being fired for failing a drug test, but couldn't the WWF have come up with a better substitute than Heenan? I'm aware he's an awesome manager, but a wrestler? Not really. On a scale of 1 to 5, this event gets a 3.5 out of 5. Check back in a few days for my next DVD review: The Rise and Fall of ECW.
