You know, it seems that television has gone through a huge metamorphosis. We went from a box with wires that weighed as much as 100 pounds to televisions that weigh about a fraction of old school televisions with wireless fidelity capabilities. In my opinion, we've gotten some things right and some things wrong. And today, this blog is going to cover what's wrong with television now a days. First and foremost, I hate cable and satellite television. I say this because 99% of what airs on TV now a days ain't worth watching. Sure, some old programs that most of you have watched as a kid still airs, but what I'm getting at is that the vast majority of programs that air today has already been done, but better executed back then. Now a days everyone wants to take that seed, plant it into the ground, and grow a cruddy show. Another thing I hate about them is the so-called "promotions" they run. Sure, both cable and dish companies start you off with a promo price like 29.99 for example, but the catch is that you're bound to their terms, and if you want to cancel early, they'll hit you with a termination fee, and even if you choose to continue, they'll jack up the price by at least double. My biggest peeve of them all is that you get a box. Yes, you read that, a box (I'm already aware that dish does this sort of thing). A box for what? Making life even more complicated than it already is? As a consumer for Charter, I hated this box since day one. It wasn't the fact that it made me hate cable even more, it's that this box has a "mind of its own." I remember when it was just a simple cable from the coax outlet to the TV. That's it. Now it's coax outlet to coax input, then HDMI out from box to television. I know that we're in a digital age of technology, but we've already had to go through a transfer from analog to digital signal back in 2008. Isn't that enough? Going back to "mind of it's own", it seems that the channel I'm watching just freezes up at random times. But that's the least of my hatred. The thing that angers me the most is that the box works when it wants to, and sometimes I get absolutely nothing. No sound, no picture, NOTHING! So is there a simpler remedy for cable television? The answer is yes, and it's called Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. Not only do these offer more programs, but also have a cheaper subscription rate. I'd rather pay $7.99 for Hulu Plus instead of $60+ dollars for Charter. What's nice about these services is that you get programs that cable won't air, and also hundreds and HUNDREDS of original programming. One downside to this is that some programs already air on non-cable channels. In my opinion, let's get rid of cable and satellite and stick with internet (not smart) television.
